SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- In a contest where the teams combined for 24 3-pointers, sophomore
Jermaine Marrow poured in a season-high 29 points as Hampton dropped an 88-75 decision to Missouri State on Friday night.
Both teams could barely miss in the opening 20 minutes as Hampton (4-7) was 17-of-32 from the floor (53.1%) and 6-of-9 from 3-point range (66.7%). Missouri State (9-2) was just a little warmer from the field going 19-of-34 from the floor (55.9%) and 7-of-11 from the 3-point arc (63.6%) as they held a 49-42 lead.
The hosts went on a 21-8 run over a five minute span midway in the final 20 minutes as a JT Miller 3-point play put the Bears up 76-54 with 9:22 left. Hampton scored the final 11 points in the last 3:48 in falling 88-75. In the second half, both teams cooled off overall but were still quite hot from behind the arc as Missouri State hit 6-of-8 and Hampton was 5-of-12.
Marrow was 10-of-18 from the floor, 4-of-5 from 3point range and 5-of-6 from the foul line and added team highs of six rebounds and five assists. Joining him in double figures was
