LADY PIRATES RETURN TO ACTION WITH SAVANNAH STATE

HAMPTON, Va. -- The Hampton University Lady Pirates return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action on Monday night at 5 pm when they tangle with the Tigers of Savannah State University in the HU Convocation Center.

ABOUT HAMPTON
Hampton is 7-7 after defeating North Carolina A&T 64-57 on Wednesday night.  Senior Malia Tate-DeFreitas scored 20 points to lead three in double figures.  Junior Jephany Brown had season highs of 13 points and three blocked shots, while senior Chanel Green had season highs of 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and a career best four steals.

ABOUT SAVANNAH STATE
The Tigers are 2-11 after falling to Bethune-Cookman 38-31 on January 4.  Kenyata Hendrix leads SSU in scoring averaging 10 points per game, while Lauren Moss is just behind her at 9.8 points per game.  On the boards, Tiyonda Davis leads them at 7.8 per contest and Jeremica Edwards is next at 6.2 per game.   Davis leads the team in blocked shots as well with 38.

LAST TIME VS. SAVANNAH STATE
Hampton scored a 65-53 win over Savannah State on Jan. 23, 2016 at the HU Convocation Center.  Malia Tate-DeFreitas had 16 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists to lead three in double figures for Hampton.   Kaylah Lupoe had 12 points and seven rebounds, while K'Lynn Willis added 12 points for Hampton.

HAMPTON VS. SAVANNAH STATE
Hampton leads the all-time series 5-1 vs. Savannah State.  The Lady Pirates lone loss to Savannah State was on Jan. 24, 2015 in Savannah, Ga. falling 61-55.

MALIA #2 ON MEAC ALL-TIME SCORING LIST
With her 20 points against North Carolina A&T on January 4, senior Malia Tate-DeFreitas moved into second place on the all-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference scoring list with 2,181 points.  She now trails the career leader, Saadia Doyle of Howard, by 129 points for the all-time record now at 2,310 points.

NEXT UP
Hampton will make its lone overnight trip of January to Dover, Delaware for a January 14 matchup with Delaware State at 2 pm.

GAME TIME CHANGE VS. N.C. CENTRAL
The Lady Pirates game with North Carolina Central on January 16 has been moved to a 4:30 pm start to accommodate a men's ESPNU broadcast against North Carolina Central at 7 pm.
