HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's basketball team will play host to the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore Monday night at 8 p.m. at the HU Convocation Center.
The Pirates (12-11, 7-3 MEAC) have won four of their last five games.
Hampton got back into the win column on Saturday, dominating rival Howard to the tune of a 63-47 win at the HU Convocation Center. Senior forward
Du'Vaughn Maxwell (Manhattan, N.Y.) led the Pirates with 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting, while also grabbing eight rebounds, and sophomore guard
Brian Darden (Hampton, Va.) chipped in 14 points.

Deron Powers (Williamsburg, Va.) added eight points, seven rebounds, and a team-high five assists. Sophomore guard
Ke'Ron Brown (Savannah, Ga.) pulled down a team- and career-high 11 rebounds.
The Hawks (3-17, 1-7 MEAC) have lost back-to-back games – and 15 of their last 16 – after Saturday's 58-50 loss to Coppin State. UMES, in its sixth season under head coach Frankie Allen, was picked to finish 13th in the MEAC this year. Junior guard KyRee Jones leads the Hawks in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game, while freshman guard Hakeem Baxter is averaging 14.2 points a contest.
Senior forward Troy Snyder is the team's top rebounder, pulling down 5.7 boards a night.
Hampton is 22-6 against Maryland Eastern Shore, and the Pirates have won each of the last six meetings – and 19 of the last 20. UMES last beat Hampton in the 2007-08 season in Princess Anne, Md. Hampton is 13-2 against UMES at home.
Hampton is 215-129 all-time as a Div. I program (since 1995) against teams currently in the MEAC, including an 11-5 mark in the conference last season. The Pirates are 7-3 in the MEAC this season after beating rival Howard on Monday.
The Pirates went 7-8 at the HU Convocation Center last season, even though they won three of their last five home contests. During Edward Joyner Jr.'s career as a head coach, Hampton is 33-25 overall in the Convocation Center, and the Pirates won their home debut on Nov. 9, defeating William & Mary 77-69, before falling 90-79 to Delaware on Nov. 17. The Pirates won their first conference home game of the season on Dec. 7, beating Florida A&M 72-62, before beating Bethune-Cookman 85-52 on Dec. 9. Hampton also won home games on Dec. 29 and Jan. 4, a double-overtime 101-95 victory over Winthrop and an 87-60 win over Radford, before falling 71-68 to Coppin State on Jan. 18, falling 80-71 to Morgan State on Jan. 20, and beating rival Howard 63-47 on Saturday.
Hampton is 3-2 at home this season in MEAC play.
