LADY PIRATES LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST FAMU

Game Notes

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will look to get back into the win column on Saturday, opening up conference play against Florida A&M at the HU Convocation Center at 4 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (5-3, 0-0 MEAC) fell 58-46 to American on Wednesday after a cold shooting night, despite 20 points from senior guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) on 8-for-18 shooting.

The Lady Rattlers (6-3, 1-0 MEAC), in their seventh season under head coach LeDawn Gibson, were picked to finish fourth in the MEAC this season, and graduate student Jasmine Grice was named Co-Preseason Player of the Year, along with senior forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.).

Senior guard Kimberly Sparkman was also recognized on the Preseason All-MEAC teams.

FAMU snapped a two-game skid on Thursday with an 83-62 win over Norfolk State, and Grice leads the Lady Rattlers with 23.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Hampton is 22-10 all-time against Florida A&M, and the Lady Pirates have won each of the last seven meetings — including a 59-39 win last season at the HU Convocation Center. The Lady Pirates are 10-4 against Florida A&M at home.

Hampton is 295-138 against teams currently in the MEAC — including a 22-10 mark against Florida A&M — and the Lady Pirates have won six MEAC regular-season titles to go along with seven tournament titles, including each of the last four.

Hampton has won 30 straight games against MEAC foes, including the last two MEAC Tournaments.

The Lady Pirates were a perfect 11-0 at home last season, and in their four-plus years under head coach David Six, they are 41-7 in the HU Convocation Center. Hampton had not lost at home since Jan. 28, 2012, when they fell 69-66 to Coppin State in overtime, prior to Wednesday's loss to American.

Hampton had won 16 straight home games before Wednesday's defeat.
