Game Notes

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will return to the HU Convocation Center on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt against American at 7 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (5-2) concluded a five-game road trip on Saturday with a 70-48 win over Santa Clara in the championship game of the Cal State Northridge Radisson Hotel Chatsworth Thanksgiving Classic. Senior forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.) scored a career-high 31 points.

She was named Tournament MVP and MEAC Player of the Week.

Freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Harrisburg, Pa.) added 25 points on Saturday – after scoring a career-best 36 on Friday against Utah State – and she was named to the All-Tournament Team and MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Bennett and Tate-DeFreitas are tied for third in the MEAC in scoring, averaging 21.0 points per game.

The Eagles (4-2) are in their first season under head coach Megan Gebbia, and American was picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League this season. American snapped a two-game skid on Sunday with a 77-54 win over Dartmouth.

Senior guard Alexis Dobbs leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game, while junior guard Jen Dumiak is averaging 10.8 points a night. Senior forward Sarah Kiely is averaging a team-best 8.2 rebounds per contest.

Hampton is 4-3 all-time against teams currently in the Patriot League — going1-0 against American; 1-0 against Army; 1-3 against Bucknell; and 1-0 against Lafayette. The Lady Pirates have never faced Boston University, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Loyola (Md.), or Navy.

The Lady Pirates were a perfect 11-0 at home last season, and in their four-plus years under head coach David Six, they are 41-6 in the HU Convocation Center. Hampton has not lost at home since Jan. 28, 2012, when they fell 69-66 to Coppin State in overtime.
