LADY PIRATES LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST MORGAN STATE

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will look to get back to its winning ways on Monday, squaring off against Morgan State at the HU Convocation Center at 4:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.

The Lady Pirates (15-4, 7-1 MEAC) had their six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, falling 69-66 to Coppin State in overtime. Senior guard Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) led the way with 25 points, hitting six 3-pointers, while senior guard Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) added 17 points and nine assists.

Senior forward Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) pulled down a career-high 21 rebounds, tying Anita Cooper (vs. Elizabeth City State, 1984) for the second-most rebounds in a single game in program history.

Morgan State (6-14, 3-4 MEAC) is on a three-game winning streak following Saturday's 75-68 win at Norfolk State. Senior guard Omara Parker led the way with 17 points off the bench, while freshman guard Chyress Lockhart added 16 points. Senior guard DeKeisha Mathis and junior guard Moneisha Davis added 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Morgan State went 17-15 last season, finishing tied for second in the MEAC with a mark of 10-6. The Lady Bears, under seventh-year head coach Donald Beasley, return just one starter and six letterwinners from last year's squad, and Morgan State was picked to finish fifth in the MEAC this season.

Mathis leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game, while Parker is pouring in 11.9 points a contest. Freshman forward/center Amarah Williams is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 6.0 boards per game.

Morgan State is scoring 63.3 points per game, while giving up 74.2 points a night.

Hampton is 21-11 all-time against Morgan State, having won the last three meetings between the two teams, including an 83-51 win in Baltimore on Jan. 16. Prior to that, Morgan State had won three straight and six out of seven in the series. The Bears last beat Hampton on Feb. 23, 2009, 90-87 in overtime at the HU Convocation Center.

Hampton is 12-2 against Morgan State at home.

The Lady Pirates are 267-136 all-time against teams currently in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Hampton has a winning record against every MEAC school. In addition, Hampton has won or shared regular-season MEAC titles four times (1998-99, 2002-03, 2003-04, 2010-11) and claimed five MEAC Tournament crowns (2000, 2003, 2004, 2010, 2011).

Under head coach David Six, the Lady Pirates are a combined 26-6 at  the HU Convocation Center over the past two-plus seasons — including a 10-2 mark at home last season and a 10-3 mark in 2009-10. The Lady Pirates had won 16 straight at home dating back to last season prior to Saturday's 69-66 overtime loss to Coppin State.

Hampton is 6-1 at home this season, having beaten South Carolina State, Savannah State, Maryland Baltimore County, East Carolina, Howard and Norfolk State.
