LADY PIRATES LOOK TO EXTEND WIN STREAK AT MORGAN STATE

BALTIMORE, Md. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will look for its fourth straight win on Monday, taking on Morgan State at the Talmadge Hill Field House at 4 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (12-3, 4-0 MEAC) defeated Coppin State 76-50 on Saturday to remain unbeaten in conference play. Sophomore guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) led the way with 18 points behind a 5-for-5 effort from behind the arc, while senior forward Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) added 17 points.

Sophomore forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.) added 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double and fourth overall. Senior guard Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) recorded six assists, leaving her one shy of 500 for her career.

Jenkins would join Sheila Hillman (740 assists) as the only two Lady Pirates to record 500 career assists.

Morgan State (3-10, 0-3 MEAC) lost its home debut on Saturday, falling 76-75 to Norfolk State. Senior guard Omara Parker led the Lady Bears with 19 points, while freshman guard Tracey Carrington added 15 points, Keirah Hicks poured in 12 and Moneisha Davis added 10 points.

Morgan State went 17-15 last season, finishing tied for second in the MEAC with a mark of 10-6. The Lady Bears, under seventh-year head coach Donald Beasley, return just one starter and six letterwinners from last year's squad, and Morgan State was picked to finish fifth in the MEAC this season.

Senior guard DeKeisha Mathis led the Lady Bears in scoring with 13.7 points per game, while Parker was second on the team with 12.3 points a contest. Carrington is averaging a team-high 5.5 rebounds a game, while freshman forward Amarah Williams is pulling down 5.4 boards a contest.

Morgan State is scoring just 62.0 points a game, while giving up 74.4 points a contest.

Hampton is 20-11 all-time against Morgan State, having won the last two meetings between the two teams. Prior to that, Morgan State had won three straight and six out of seven in the series. The Bears last beat Hampton on Feb. 23, 2009, 90-87 in overtime at the HU Convocation Center. Hampton is 6-8 against Morgan State in Baltimore.

The Lady Pirates are 266-136 all-time against teams currently in the MEAC. Hampton has a winning record against every MEAC school. In addition, Hampton has won or shared regular-season MEAC titles four times (1998-99, 2002-03, 2003-04, 2010-11) and claimed five MEAC Tournament crowns (2000, 2003, 2004, 2010, 2011).

Under head coach David Six, the Lady Pirates are a combined 23-13 in road games over the past two-plus seasons — including a 60-37 win at Pitt, a 68-55 win at Jacksonville, a 79-62 win at IPFW, a 66-39 win at Chicago State, a 71-63 win at Boston College and a 76-50 win at Coppin State. Hampton went 11-4 on the road last season, including a stretch in which Hampton won five straight road games. Hampton went 6-6 on the road in 2009-10, Six's first season at the helm.
