LADY PIRATES HEADED TO BETHUNE-COOKMAN

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will hit the road again on Saturday, when they head to Moore Gymnasium to take on the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman at 2 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (12-5, 5-0 MEAC), in their second season under head coach David Six, won their fourth straight game in convincing fashion on Monday, as they beat rival North Carolina A&T 71-36 at the HU Convocation Center. Freshman guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) led the Lady Pirates with a career-high 23 points – 18 of which came in the first half – while senior forward Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds.

Bethune-Cookman (8-8, 2-3 MEAC) fell to Maryland Eastern Shore on the road 69-52 on Monday. Sophomore guard Jasmine Elum led the Lady Wildcats with 17 points, while senior guard Jasmine Daniels added 16 points. Senior forward Sarah Bolden pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Hampton is 19-6 all-time against Bethune-Cookman, having won six of the last seven meetings. The Lady Pirates took two of three meetings last season, including a 58-38 win in the MEAC Tournament semifinals. Hampton won the first-ever meeting 73-67 on Jan. 2, 1997, going on to win 10 of the first 12 meetings. Bethune-Cookman has never won more than two straight over Hampton – a 75-56 decision on Feb. 5, 2005 and a 77-71 defeat on Feb. 3, 2006. Hampton is 6-6 against Bethune-Cookman on the road.

The Lady Wildcats went 17-15 last season, finishing sixth in the MEAC with a mark of 9-7 before falling to Hampton in the semifinals of the MEAC Tournament. Bethune-Cookman returns five starters from last year's squad, as well as seven letterwinners, and the Lady Wildcats were picked to finish fifth in the MEAC, picking up one first-place vote.

Senior guard Demetria Frank, a Preseason Second Team All-MEAC selection, leads the team in scoring with 15.4 points per game, while Elum is pouring in 15.1 points a contest and Daniels is averaging 10.2 points a night. Bolden is pulling down a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game.

The Lady Wildcats are averaging just 57.6 points per game on offense, while giving up 59.2 points a night.

So far this season, the Lady Pirates are 6-3 on the road, having defeated James Madison 69-64 in the first round of the Preseason WNIT before falling 76-64 at South Dakota State, 64-57 at Charlotte and 62-49 at Wake Forest. Hampton has also defeated Radford 52-51, East Carolina 69-63, Georgia State 74-44, Coppin State 76-56 and Morgan State 68-37 on the road. Six is 12-10 on the road for his career as a head coach.
