LADY PIRATES TO TAKE ON MORGAN STATE

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Hampton University women's basketball team will look for its second straight win on Monday, when the Lady Pirates take on Morgan State at the Hill Field House at 6 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (9-5, 2-0 MEAC), in their second season under head coach David Six, got back into the win column on Saturday, running past Coppin State 76-56 at the Physical Education Complex. Freshman guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) led three Lady Pirates in double figures with 22 points on 7-for-19 shooting, making five of her nine 3-pointers. Freshman guard Chikilra Goodman (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a career-high 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting, while senior forward Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) added 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Morgan State (7-6, 2-0 MEAC) snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday with a 56-46 win over Howard at the Hill Field House. Senior forward Theresa Davis led the Bears with 15 points and six rebounds, while senior guard Brittany Dodson added 12 points.

Hampton is 19-11 all-time against Morgan State, even though the Bears have won seven of the last 10 meetings. The Lady Pirates beat the Bears on ESPNU last season, taking a 73-47 win on Jan. 11, 2010 at the HU Convocation Center. These two teams first met on Nov. 23, 1979, with Morgan State taking a 64-40 win; Hampton's first win over Morgan State came on Dec. 8, 1986, 121-33. The Lady Pirates are 5-8 all-time against Morgan State on the road.

The Bears went 17-13 last season, finishing tied for second with Hampton in the MEAC with 12-4 mark (though Hampton won the tiebreaker by virtue of beating the Bears in the regular season). Head coach Donald Beasley returns two starters and eight letterwinners from last year's squad, and Morgan State was picked to finish seventh in the MEAC this year.

Senior guard Brittany Dodson leads the Bears in scoring so far this season, pouring in 12.5 points per game, while senior guard Erin Hawkins adds 9.6 points a night. Senior forward Theresa Davis pulls down a team-high 7.3 rebounds per night.

Morgan State is scoring just 56.2 points per game on offense, while the defense gives up 61.6 points a night.

So far this season, the Lady Pirates are 5-3 on the road, having defeated James Madison 69-64 in the first round of the Preseason WNIT before falling 76-64 at South Dakota State, 64-57 at Charlotte and 62-49 at Wake Forest. Hampton has also defeated Radford 52-51, East Carolina 69-63, Georgia State 74-44 and Coppin State 76-56 on the road. Six is 11-10 on the road for his career as a head coach.
