TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Hampton University women's basketball team (14-11, 9-4 MEAC) will hit the road again to take on the Lady Rattlers of Florida A&M (15-9, 7-6 MEAC) at the Gaither Gymnasium on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Hampton lost a tough game against the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman 62-53 at Moore Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to break an eight-game winning streak. National Player of the Week and MEAC Defensive Player of the Week
Quanneisha Perry had her 10th double-double of the season with a team-high 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Choicetta McMillian contributed 12 points and four rebounds.
The Lady Pirates forced 22 turnovers but committed 21 themselves. Hampton shot 37 percent from the field, but allowed the Lady Wildcats to shoot 54.1 percent, which is a season team-high for an opponent. The Lady Pirates struggled from the line, shooting 50 percent (8-for-16) while allowing their opponent to shoot 72.4 percent (21-for-29) from the free-throw stripe.
The Lady Pirates are 17-10 all-time against Florida A&M, following this year's first meeting on Jan. 25, when Hampton won 67-54 at the HU Convocation Center. The last time Florida A&M beat Hampton was Jan. 12, 2009, when the Lady Rattlers beat Hampton 68-59 at Gaither Gymnasium. Hampton won the first game against Florida A&M on Jan. 17, 1998, 65-62 at Gaither Gymnasium.
Florida A&M is looking to pick up where they left off last season, and compete for the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship. Last year, under first-year head coach LeDawn Gibson, the Lady Rattlers finished 14-17 overall and 7-9 in the MEAC, making a surprising run to the semifinals of the 2009 MEAC Tournament.
Tameka Mckelton is leading the team in points with 14.3 per game, and Qiana Donald is leading the team in rebounds with 11.0 rebounds a game.
Florida A&M is averaging 59.4 points per game on offense, while its defense gives up 59.1 points a night. The Lady Rattlers are committing 19.6 turnovers a game, while forcing 17.4 turnovers a contest.
