
Pirates Fall At Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, NY. (Sept. 18, 2026) … The Hampton University volleyball team dropped their first CAA contest of 2026 to Hofstra Friday afternoon 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-23).Â
In set one the two sides traded points early, as Hofstra held a 7-5 lead after Lillian Campbell deposited a kill. The Pride then ripped off a 9-0 run to take a commanding 16-5 lead. They then used that run to eventually take set one 25-16.Â
Hampton responded early in set two as Ana Luiz Caminah Matos recorded a kill to get the set started, followed by two Pride errors. Hofstra quickly responded with a 6-1 run to take a 7-4 lead. The Pride continued to extend that lead when they rattled off another 9-1 run late to take a 21-9 advantage. They then closed the set out, to take a 2-0 lead over the Pirates, winning set two 25-14.Â
The Pirates quickly fell behind in set three 7-1, as the Pride used their momentum from the first two sets to take an early lead. Hampton quickly responded when Racquel Frazier, Katerina Pappa and Nicola Jaroszewicz recorded three straight kills. The two sides then traded points, as Hofstra held a 14-9 lead midway through. The Pirates then responded with a 7-1 run, capped by a Frazier kill to give Hampton a 16-15 lead. After the two sides traded points, Hofstra ripped off three of the sets final four points to take set three 25-23, taking match one between the two sides.Â
Frazier, Pappa and Lillian Campbell had seven kills each to lead Hampton who will close out the weekend series with the Pride in a 1 pm start on Saturday.
