Pirates Drop Two in Florida A&M Tournament

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 11, 2026) … The Hampton University volleyball team dropped two matches Friday in the Florida A&M Tournament to FIU and Louisiana.
In set one Friday morning, Hampton capitalized on multiple Panther errors early, as the two sides were tied at eight early. After a quick 4-0 spurt from FIU, Katerina Pappa halted the run to help the Pirates bring the score within three at 12-9. The two sides then traded points back and forth before it was FIU ripping off a 7-1 run to take a commanding 21-13 lead. The Pirates battled back late, but eventually dropped set one 25-21
Aliyah Millner started the scoring for Hampton in set two with a kill, followed by kills from Racquel Fraizer and Lillian Campbell to take an early 3-1 lead. The two sides traded points before FIU responded with a 4-0 run to hold a 8-5 lead. Hampton continued to battle, as Frazier registered another kill to keep the score within three at 15-12 midway through, but it was eventually FIU ripping off a 5-1 run to take a 20-13 lead, which they used to take set two 25-16.
FIU used the momentum from the first two sets, taking a 7-2 lead early in the third. The Pirates fought back as Frazier ripped back-to-back kills, bringing the score to 11-8, but it was the Panthers once again ripping off a run to take a commanding lead. FIU eventually downed Hampton 25-15 in the third set to earn the win 3-0.
In match two, Louisiana held an early 8-4 lead over the Pirates before Pappa recorded a kill and a service ace to bring the score to 8-6. The two sides then traded points, as it was the Ragin Cajuns holding a 15-9 lead at the midway point. Hampton continued to battle back, bringing the score within two at 19-17 when Campbell buried home a kill. Louisiana then haulted the Pirates run as they rattled off a 6-2 run to take set one 25-19.
The Ragin Cajuns used that momentum in the second set, racing out to a 9-3 lead over Hampton before Frazier and Campbell recorded kills to settle the Pirates in. Louisiana then rattled off a 6-2 run to once again take a commanding lead. The Ragin Cajuns eventually took set two 25-13 over Hampton.
In set three, Louisiana raced out to another early lead, before Morgan Reeves recorded a kill to help Hampton bring the score within two at 7-5. After the two sides traded points, it was the Ragin Cajuns ripping off a 4-1 run late in the set to hold a 21-15 lead. The two sides traded points from there, but Hampton eventually fell 25- 19 in the third set.
Campbell's 10 kills in match two against Louisiana matched a career high, as she recorded 10 against LeMoyne as a freshman in 2025.
Hampton returns to action Saturday morning when they take on Florida A&M in at 10:00 a.m. to wrap up competition in the tournament.
