ELON, N.C. (April 10, 2026) … The homestanding Elon Phoenix got a three-run home run from Mauri Murray with one out in the fifth inning to end the game as they defeated Hampton 8-0 in a CAA series opener on Friday night.

Elon (12-26, 6-7) got an unearned run in the first and pushed the lead to 2-0 on a Greta Hessenthaler RBI single to score Peyton Swart who singled and went to second on a fielder's choice.

After a scoreless third, the Phoenix scored three runs as two came on a Lani Wyrick single and the third was on an error.

In the fifth, Teagan Baulsir walked and went to second on a bunt single from Mary Moss Wirt. After a foul out, Murray blasted a 2-1 pitch to left field for the run-rule margin of 8-0.

Hampton had a two-out single from Leah Maduro in the fourth and a leadoff single from Myiah Sutton in the fifth for their two hits.

These teams will play game two on Saturday at 2 p.m.
