HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 4, 2025) The Hampton University volleyball team hits the road to play in the Blue Hen Invitational Friday afternoon against Virginia Tech at 2 p.m.
Hampton will take on the Hokies, Le Moyne and Delaware in the three-day event. The Pirates will play two games on Saturday against Le Moyne at 10 a.m. and Delaware at 5 p.m.
All contests will have live stats, and Hampton's match wtih Delaware will be streamed on ESPN+.
ABOUT HAMPTON
Jaya Rimm led the way for the Pirates in their opening weekend, earning a nod on the All-Tournament Team. The Freshman registered 25 kills over the course of the first three games, while adding 10 digs. Fellow freshman Racquel Fraizer also logged 20+ kills on the weekend with 21.
Morgan Warren paced the Pirates with 57 of the team's 79 assists in the first three games, with a career high 35 against UMES. Kylah McNeal leads the defense with 9.0 blocks.
The Pirates face members of the ACC (Virginia Tech), Conference USA (Delaware), Patriot League (American, Navy) and Big South (Gardner-Webb) along with a pair of matches against Norfolk State in non-conference action.
ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH
This will be just the third meeting between the Hokies and Pirates, as the two haven't played since the 1990 season. Virginia Tech brings in a 2-0 record against HU.
The Hokies have jumped out to a 2-1 record to start their young campaign in 2025. Virginia Tech took down North Carolina Central and UNCW 3-0, before dropping its finale over the weekend to Lindenwood 3-2.
ABOUT LE MOYNE
Saturday will mark the first time Le Moyne and Hampton will meet on the court. It marks just the second year Le Moynehas been a Division I school.
The Dolphins have posted a 6-47 record over the course of their Division I tenure, but hold a 1-2 record heading into the weekend after defeating Niagara. Louden Denali (42) and Jordyn Hamilton (34) each bring 30+ kills into the weekend.
ABOUT DELAWARE
Delaware plays host for the weekend after starting their season 0-2. The Blue Hens are coming off a 20-7 season that saw them play for the CAA Championship.
Anna Logan Gillens earned a spot on the C-USA Preseason All-Conference Team following a season in which she posted 307 kills and blocks. Her performance in 2024 landed Logan Gillens a Second-Team All CAA nod.
All-Rimm
Freshman Jaya Rimm was named to the Hampton All-Tournament Team following her 25-kill weekend. In the tournament finale, the Cyrpess native registered a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs to lead the Pirates.
Rookie Revolution
Eight freshmen made their debut over the weekend for the Pirates. Jaya Rimm leads the team in kills (25) and Kylah McNeal in blocks (9). Nia Thomas registered 14 digs in the opening weekend, while Racquel Frazier is second on the team in kills (21).
Hi My Name Is...
With nine new faces in a 15-person roster, name tags were of use the first days of preseason camp. The Pirates will have height this season as nine of the 15 players are 6-0 or taller.
