PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 27, 2025) ... The Hampton University track and field programs participated in the prestigious Penn Relays this past week and came out with three top ten finishes.
The women's 4x400 relay team of
Jordan Mozie,
Dejah Grant,
Arriah Gilmer and
Kayla Spencer finished seventh in the Championship of America race with a 3:42.43. That grouping ran 3:37.46 in the qualifying rounds Friday to make Saturday's final.
Grant also ran in the 400 hurdles where she finished seventh in 58.01 winning her heat as
Kayla Spencer was also in her heat and ran 59.80 to finish overall in 19th.
Junior
Damali Williams finished eighth in the discus throw as the Clarendon, Jamaica native unleashed a throw of 52.07 meters (170-10) on her final throw to move into eighth place. Also in the discus was
Rochele Solmon who finished 11
th in 50.09m (164-4) and
Nya Harmon who threw 47.37m (155-5) to finish 14
th.
In the shot put, Harmon was 14
th with a toss of 13.89m (45-7) and Solmon was 15
th with a throw of 13.82m (45-4.25).
The men's 4x400 group of
Daniel Danner,
Justin Anderson,
Ibrahim Abdalla and
Mohammed Al-YaFee ran 3:13.11 to finish 17
th.
Jaida Graham took 18
th in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 47.94m (157-3).
VIRGINIA HIGH PERFORMANCE
A small contingent of Pirates went to Charlottesville on Sunday to participate in the Virginia High Performance meet.
Leading the pack was
Prince Osagie-Erese who set a personal best winning the men's high jump in 1.97m (6-5.5) with
Daven Gibson coming in second at the same height.
Ellis Branch finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 14.59m (47-10.5), while
Danielle James took third in the long jump with a 5.91 meter leap (19-4.75). The men's 4x100 relay also took second with a season best 40.48.
Hampton will next run at the Aggie Invitational on May 2 in Greensboro, N.C.
