HAMPTON, Va. (July 2, 2025) … The Virginia Sports Information Directors announced on Wednesday the 2024-25 VaSID University Division All-State Women's Indoor Track and Field team and a total of nine Pirates were recognized.
Peninah Mutisya was named Co-Rookie of the Year to add more highlights to a strong 2024-25, where she was named Hampton University Athlete of the Year by Peninsula Sports Club in June, Pirate Athlete of the Year at the annual Athletic Banquet in Apri,l and CAA Indoor Female Rookie of the Year in March.
Five Pirates were named to the first team, which is the most by any school. The nine join 2020 Second Team selection Adetoun Oluwole as the only Indoor Track and Field honorees in program history as VaSID started selecting a team in 2019-20.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
Individual summaries below of Hampton honorees.
Peninah Mutisya
VaSID Co-Indoor Rookie of the Year
First Team Distance
Mutisya helped Hampton claim its first CAA women's team title, winning both the 3K (9:16.47) and 5K (15:45.87) in meet-record fashion. She also joined the 3K's sub-9:00 club with a winning time of 8:59.10 at the Penn State National Open, which ranked her 34th nationally for the indoor season. Mutisya was named 2024-25 Hampton University Athlete of the Year by the Peninsula Sports Club in June, named Pirate Athlete of the Year at the annual Athletic Banquet in April and CAA Indoor Female Rookie of the Year in March.
Brianna Charles
First Team Sprints
Charles took home three all-conference honors with a trio of second-place finishes at the CAA Championships. She took second in the 60 meters with a personal best 7.44, second in the 200 in 23.63, and was part of the second-place 4x400 relay team that ran 3:43.29. Charles won the 200 at the D1 Pre-National (24.03) and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team in 3:44.01.
Jordan Mozie
First Team Mid-Distance
Mozie earned a pair of All-Conference honors in the CAA Championship with a first place in the 4x800 relay (9:02.14) and a second place in the 800 meters (2:09.70). She set personal bests in the 400 meters at the HBCU Showcase (54.90) to win, the 1000 meters at the VCU Rams Indoor (2:50.34) to win and the 600 meters at the Penn Opener (1:30.56) to come in third.
Rochele Solmon
First Team Throws
Solmon was named All-Conference in the shot put at the CAA Championships, coming in second with a toss of 15.30m (50-2.5), which is a personal best. She had top four finishes in all seven meets she participated in. Solmon won the D1 Pre-National (14.98m/49-1.75) and the HBCU Showcase (14.95m/49-0.75).
Victoria Caldwell
First Team Throws
Caldwell threw a season-best 18.51m (60-8.75) to take second in the weight throw at the CAA Championships to earn All-Conference honors. She was third in the D1 Pre-National (17.47m/57-4.75) and fourth in the Millrose Games (18.42m/60-5.25). Caldwell won the Penn Opener (17.68m/58-0.25) and HBCU Showcase (18.37m/60-3.25) to start the indoor season.
Danielle James
Second Team Jumps
James was named All-Conference in the long jump at the CAA Championships, coming in third with a leap of 5.80m (19-0.5) to take third. She was also fourth in the triple at the CAA meet with a leap of 11.98m (39-3.75). James finished in the top four in the long jump in four of the five meets she participated in.
4x400 relay

Arriah Gilmer,
Morgan Pruitt,
Carmen PenaSoto, and
Brianna Charles helped give the Pirates their first CAA Championship with a second-place finish in the 4x400 at the conference meet, running 3:43.29. Charles ran a blistering 53.28 anchor leg to put Hampton in second and lock up the team title.
