Hampton Softball Ends Delaware Series With a Loss

HAMPTON, Va. (April 19, 2025) … The Hampton University softball team concluded its three-game series against the Delaware Blue Hens with a 13-5 defeat. Delaware's bats got going early on in the contest, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings. After a quiet first two frames, Hampton got on the board in the bottom of the third.

Throughout the game, the Blue Hens were aggressive on the bases. In the first inning alone, Delaware recorded two stolen bases. The Blue Hens only tallied two hits in the top of the first. With the aggressive base running, UD jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Entering Saturday afternoon's contest, Delaware led the Coastal Athletic Association in home runs. The Blue Hens produced two two-run homers in the top of the second. Delaware did most of its damage in the second inning with only one out on the board. Before Hampton could record the third out, the Blue Hens scored two more runs to jump out to an 8- 0 lead.

Delaware took advantage of two errors committed by HU to increase its lead to 11 runs. Hampton got the bats going in the bottom half of the frame. After Kylee Quinn reached first on an error, Carmynn Bonner produced the Pirates' first run of the contest on a triple to right center field. Sophomore Kylie Hill brought in another run before the end of the stanza on a base knock to the outfield.

The Blue Hens hit their third home run of the game in the top of the fifth to regain their 11-run advantage. While Hampton was down to its final three outs, HU's offense continued to produce. The Pirates began the frame with consecutive walks. Bonner cleared the bases on a three-run blast to center field. With her second hit of the day, Hill kept the inning alive for Coach Cat Tarvin's side. Delaware halted any momentum gained by the Pirates by rallying off three straight outs.
