HAMPTON, Va. (September 5, 2024) – The Lady Pirates volleyball team is venturing up to Washington D.C. this weekend to compete in three matches.
Hampton (0-3) will play at American, and then against North Texas and at Georgetown.

The team returns six players from last year's roster, including Cortni Adams, Ada Bulgur, Madison Clark, Rhisen Davis, Kylah Hunter, and Shachia Lamb.
They are joined by eight new freshmen, Taylor Shumate, Brooklynn Patterson, Maria Clara De Andrade, Morgan Warren, Ida Wiszomirska, Lyrique Alteus, Alanna Allen, and Abena Asomani-Martin, and one transfer sophomore, Dila Derendeli.
Last weekend, The Lady Pirates fell to Army, Buffalo, and Oakland at the Buffalo Invite. Bulgur leads Hampton in kills with 18, followed by Derendeli at 15. Warren took care of the majority setting, recording 37 assists. Derendeli posted four aces.
On the defensive side of the net, Hunter has notched 30 digs. Adams earned nine total blocks, six of them solo.
Scouting American (5-0)
The Eagles are led by Ahen Kim in his second season as the head coach. In 2023, the team advanced to the Patriot League title match and Esma Sipahi won the Patriot Setter of the Year award. American has started the season 5-0 with wins over Georgetown, UC Riverside, George Washington, and Coppin State.
Zedo Yilmaz leads the Eagles in kills with 65. Next is Adelina Berisha at 53. Sipahi is the primary setter with 169 assists. Yilmaz has the most digs at 52 and Lilou Stegeman has recorded 15 blocks.
American is up in the series 1-0.
Scouting North Texas (1-3)
Kristee Porter is leading the Mean Green in her third season. Last season, the Mean Green advanced to their first national postseason tournament since 2018, the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. North Texas earned a win over Texas Southern, and losses against Colorado, Rutgers, and Miami.
Coco Gillett has recorded the most kills for the Mean Green with 57 and teammate Payton Van veen has 42. Kamryn Scroggins has taken control of setting duties with 91 assists. Madison Scrivner and Aryn Johnson each have 39 digs and Truli Levy has 21 blocks.
Hampton and North Texas have never played each other.
Scouting Georgetown (1-2)
The Hoyas are coached by AJ Bonetti in his second season as head coach. Last year the team finished 14-16. Georgetown has a win over UC Riverside and losses against American and Howard.
Dionna Mitchell and Giselle Williams lead the Hoyas in kills with 29 and 28. Emily Wen has notched 52 assists. On the defensive side of the net, Karis Park has tallied 45 digs and Vaughan Anoa'I 13 blocks.
Georgetown is up in the series 3-1.
