Lady Pirates End Series Against Charleston With a 3-0 Defeat

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Nov. 2, 2024) … The Lady Pirates fell to Charleston in TD Arena 3-0 ending the series with the Cougars. In the first set the Charleston got off to a quick start and did not look back. With the momentum gained from the first frame, the Cougars took the next two sets. 

During the opening moments of the first stanza, Charleston jumped out to a 7-3 advantage. Brooklyn Patterson recorded an early kill. The Bowie, Md. native finished the match with five kills. While the Cougars did not sustain a sizeable run in the frame, the multiple streaks of scoring four consecutive points helped Charleston take the set 25-7.

Early on, Coach Ronaldo Pacheco's side kept the frame close during the second set. An error by the Cougars and Madison Clark producing a kill Hampton brought it back to within one point. Charleston created separation from the Lady Pirates by manufacturing a 9-2 run. Clark continued to record kills throughout the second stanza for Hampton. However, the Cougar's eight-point advantage proved to be enough for Charleston to take the set 25-15.

During the final frame of the match, the Lady Pirates got on the board first with a kill from Clark. Charleston went on a 6-2 run building a four-point advantage. Patterson chipped in with three kills helping cut the Cougar's lead down to 7-4. Hampton was able to take advantage of four errors made by Charleston. The Lady Pirates towards the end of the set committed errors as well. With the Cougars taking three consecutive points, Charleston claimed the final frame 25-12.

Hampton returns to action at Holland Hall hosting the Delaware Blue Hens on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Lady Pirates' next match will also be streamed on FloSports.
