HAMPTON, Va. (October 4, 2024) … After dropping the first two sets to Elon 10-7, 4-2), Hampton (0-17, 0-6) battled the Phoenix on even terms throughout the third set before falling 26-24. It marked Elon's fourth consecutive win, all by 3-0 scores.
Trailing in the third set 17-12, the Lady Pirates outscored the Pheonix 8-3 to tie it at 20-20. Tied at 21-21, 22-22, 23-23 and 24-24, Elon scored the matches final two points for the win.
Hampton jumped for a quick 7-5 lead in the first set. After a back-and-forth battle in which there were four ties and two lead changes. An 11-3 Elon run put the Phoenix ahead 16-10. Elon outscored the Lady Pirates 9-2 to take the first set 25-12. Hampton's Brooklyn Patterson and Elon's Syndney Love each had five kills in the first period.
The Phoenix registered the first two points of the second set and led the entire way. A 9-2 Elon run early in the set put the Phoenix ahead 11-4. Hampton closed to 21-16 before Elon closed it out to win the set 25-16.
The Phoenix got an early lead in the third set of the game with a quick 7-4 lead. A 3-0 run from the Lady Pirates tied the game at 7-7. After three ties, Elon went ahead. Hampton's
Madison Clark ended Elon's 4-0 run with a kill, making the game 13-9. Hampton took its first lead of the game with 21-20. After an exciting four lead changes, the Phoenix rallied past the Lady Pirates to win the set 26-24.
