Lady Pirates Drop the Second Match of the Series to Campbell

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 25, 2024) … The Hampton University Volleyball team _ to the Campbell Camels. A late run by Campbell helped CU take the first set but Hampton responded in the second frame tying the match at 1-1. After winning the second set, the Camels took the next two frames to secure the match. 

During the first set, the Lady Pirates and Camels traded blows and both teams struggled to gain the advantage. In the early moments of the frame, the score was tied on four separate occasions. Kylah Hunter's and Ada Bulger's defensive efforts helped Hampton throughout the first stanza. Hunter finished the first set with seven digs along with Bulger recording five and a block. Campbell tallied three straight points to take their first lead since the 3-2 mark. The Camels' three consecutive points propelled CU to a 9-1 run. With the score 20-14 in favor of Campbell, a block by Madison Clark and Lyrique Alteus ended the Camels dominant stretch. CU would still go on to take the first set 25-17. 

Coach Ronaldo Pacheco's side started off the second frame strong. The Lady Pirates went on a 9-2 run. Clark during this dominant stretch of play for HU produced two kills. The Hampton, Va. native finished the match with a team-high_ kills. Campbell throughout the remainder of the set battled back to it up 17-17. With Hampton taking the advantage late 24-20, the Lady Pirates won the frame evening the match at 1-1.

The Camels started off the third set with a slight one-point lead. After a kill by Hampton's Maria Clara De Andrade, Campbell tallied seven consecutive points. Shachia Lamb and Madison Clark stopped the Camel's run with a block. With a 16-9 advantage CU had full control of the frame. With another strong run of form, Campbell went on to win the third set 25-12. 

While the frame was tied on three separate occasions early in the fourth stanza the Camels jumped out to a 9-5 lead. Once against Campbell produced a stretch of six straight points to grow its advantage to nine. The Lady Pirates brought set back to within two points at the 16-11 mark. Brooklyn Patterson and Clark both produced kills for the Lady Pirates. Kylah Hunter would also record her second ace of the match during the HU's dominant run. However, after time out, Campbell was able to take control of the stanza winning the final frame 25-18. 

Hampton returns to action on November 2 against Charleston. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed on FloSports.
