Early Goal Lifts Hofstra Past the Lady Pirates

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2024) … Hampton University women's soccer team fell on the road to Hofstra 2-0. In the match's opening minutes, the Pride found the back of the net jumping out to an early lead. Hampton's offense started to find its rhythm in the second half recording five shots. Before the end of the match, the Pride scored once more doubling its advantage. 

Early on in the contest, Hampton's defense was able to withstand the Pride's attack. Avery John got the start in goal for the Lady Pirates. The Rosenfield, Germany native, once again set a new career high in saves. John finished the match with 13 saves and has recorded double-digit saves in back-to-back contests.  

Hofstra took an early lead finding the back of the at the ninth-minute mark. While the Pride produced 14 more shots in the first half, Hampton's defense stood strong. Coach Vorwold's side developed a strong chance but HU was called offside halting the attack.   

In the second half, the Lady Pirates offense started to find its rhythm. Sophomore Keri Geter recorded Hampton's first shot of the match. Morgan Edwards entered the contest at the 56th minute for Coach Vorwold's side. The Los Angeles, Calif. native,  finished the contest with a team-high two shots. 

Before the end of the contest, Hofstra found the back of the net once again taking a 2-0 lead. While Hampton tallied two shots in the final five minutes, the Pride kept HU off the board. 

Up nest, the Lady Pirates return to action against Charleston on Thursday, Oct. 17. The match at Powhatan Field is set to begin at noon and will be streamed on FloSports.
