Hampton Women’s Soccer Closes Out Two-Game Road Trip Against Hofstra

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 11, 2024) … Hampton University women's soccer team closes out its two-game road trip against the Hofstra Pride. The Lady Pirates match against the Pride is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed on FloSports.

Prior to joining the Coastal Athletic Association, Hampton had never faced Hofstra. Since joining the conference, the Lady Pirates have faced the Pride twice. Hofstra leads the series 2-0 with the Pride taking the most recent matchup 4-1 at Powhatan Field.

In its last time out, Hampton fell at LaValle Stadium 6-0 to Stony Brook. The Seawolves struck first in the 22nd minute. While SBU's leading goal scorer Luciana Setteducate struck again, the Lady Pirates' defense did not allow another goal in the first half. Avery John got the start in goal for Hampton and surpassed her career-high in saves during the first half. The Rosenfield, Germany native finished the match with 12 saves.

While Hampton has scored the second-most goals in a season in the program's short history, the Lady Pirates have had 11 different goal scorers. In the history of the program, HU has never had 11 different student-athletes find the back of the net. Hampton's 2024 recruiting class has had a direct impact on the field accounting for 47 percent of the team's goal contributions.

Hofstra is coached by Simon Riddiough who is in his 19th season with the program. During his tenure, the Pride have won over 230 matches. Coach Riddiough's side began conference play with a 2-1 win over Charleston.  Ellie Gough and Thorhildur Thorhillsdottir both scored in the conference opener. Although Hofstra was outshot 20-8, the Pride held Charleston to one goal.

Throughout the 2024-25 campaign, the Pride have been one of the better defensive teams in the conference allowing a goal per match. While Hofstra is averaging the seventh most shots (10) per game in the CAA, the Pride have the 17th-best shot accuracy in the nation at 53.4 percent. Both Synne Danielsen and Mackenzie Sullivan have seen time in goal, but Sullivan has been the Pride's go-to goalkeeper.
