Hampton Women’s Soccer Begins Two-Game Road Stint With a Loss to Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2024) … The Lady Pirates begin their two-game road stretch with a 6-0 loss to the Seawolves of Stony Brook at LaValle Stadium. Stony Brook struck first in the 22nd minute. SBU's leading goal scorer Luciana Setteducate found the back of the net late in the first half. Hampton's Avery John would finish the contest with a season-high 12 saves. The Rosenfield, Germany native tied the team-high in the first half. 

In the opening moments of the match, Hampton's defense held off the Seawolves attack. Through the first 20 minutes, Avery John recorded four saves. Stony Brook continued to fire shots challenging the Lady Pirates' backline. SBU's Luciana Setteducate found the back of the net in the 22nd minute. Setteducate scored once again doubling the Seawolves advantage. 

Through the remainder of the first half, the Lady Pirates did not allow another goal. John continued to make saves tallying saves in the first 45 minutes surpassing her career-high. Sophomore Mattie Edozi recorded Hampton's first shot of the night. Her shot would be off target just missing the crossbar. 

Stony Brook in the first ten minutes of the second half found the back of the net making it 3-0. Before the end of the contest, the Seawolves produced three more goals. The Lady Pirates doubled their shot total in the second half recording two. Freshman Nylah Jennings at the 62nd minute challenged SBU's goalkeeper with a shot on goal. However, Trinitie Malony made the stop halting Hampton's attack.

Up next, the Lady Pirates return to action against Hofstra on Sunday, Oct. 13. The match at Captains Field is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed on FloSports.
