Princess Anne, Md. – The Lady Pirates suffered a loss in straight sets in their first game of the season against the Quinnipiac Bobcats (11-25, 11-25, 10-25).
Hampton fought hard throughout the match with a limited roster.
Cortni Adams and
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues led Hampton in kills with three each while
Kylah Hunter recorded nine assists. On the defensive end, Hunter and Kalyne Pierre each had five digs.
Rickelle Wescott tallied all three aces for the Lady Pirates.
How it Happened
Set 1
The Lady Pirates scored the first point of the match on a kill from
Cortni Adams assisted by
Kylah Hunter. The Lady Bobcats would then score five straight (1-5) taking control of the set. Hampton forced six attacking errors from Quinnipiac. The Lady Bobcats recorded six aces (11-25).
Set 2
The Lady Pirates scored back-to-back points off a kill by
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues and an ace by
Rickelle Wescott to narrow the lead to one (3-4). Two more consecutive points kept Hampton in the set only trailing by five at 7-12. The Lady Bobcats took seven of the next eight points and pulled away (11-25).
Set 3
The Lady Pirates built confidence in the third jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Quinnipiac was determined to stay in the set and took the next seven (5-7). Hampton brought it back to within one (8-9) before the Lady Bobcats went on another 6-0 run to take the final set (10-25).
