The Lady Pirates Drop Final CAA Match

HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 11, 2023) – The Lady Pirates celebrated senior day as they hosted their last CAA game of the season against the College of Charleston Cougars on Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars won the match in straight sets with them ending 12-25, 11-25 and 18-25.

Kristine Teivane and Madison Clark each posted eight kills while Maria Eduarda Rodrigues had six. Nadja Bulatovic notched 14 set assists and teammate Kalyn Pierre had 11. Rickelle Wescott tallied her 17th ace of the season. Teivane also recorded an ace.

Libero Kylah Hunter and Madison Clark notched 11 digs each. Wescott tied a season-high with four blocks in the afternoon while Clark had three and Rodrigues two.

How It Happened

Set 1

The Lady Pirates jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first. The Cougars went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 6-3. Charleston continued to press on and extended the lead to seven at 15-8 and ended the set on a 6-0 run (12-25). Clark had six digs in the set.

Set 2

The Lady Pirates dug an early hole in the second, falling behind 6-0. Hampton took the next two points, but they were unable to make much ground as the Cougars would soon lead 13-3. The set ended 11-25. Four different Lady Pirates were involved in blocks in the set.

Set 3

Despite falling behind 3-1 to start the third, the Lady Pirates rallied and went on a 4-0 run to take the lead at 6-4. The points went back and forth, as the score was still tied at 16. Charleston won the next six and then put the set out of reach. Four Pirates notched multiple kills in the set.

Up Next

The Lady Pirates will travel to Norfolk, Va. tomorrow for their last regular season match to face the Norfolk State Spartans at noon.
