HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 7, 2023) The Lady Pirates fell in straight sets to CAA conference opponents on Saturday evening in Holland Hall (12-25, 10-25, 18-25).

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues led the Lady Pirates in kills with seven followed by
Rhisen Davis with five and
Rickelle Wescott with three.
Kalyn Pierre and
Nadja Bulatovic each had eight assists. Wescott and Bulatovic also recorded an ace.

On the defensive side of the ball, Davis recorded a career-high 13 digs while
Kylah Hunter and Rodrigues each had eight.
Tyller Williams and
Rickelle Wescott both posted a solo and an assisted block during the match.

Set 1

Stony Brook jumped out to an early lead at 4-0. The Lady Pirates fought back thanks to a Rodrigues kill and brought the score to within two at 5-7. Multiple 5-0 runs by the Seawolves put the set out of reach as it ended 12-25).

Hampton fought back in the second. Wescott recorded back-to-back kills and tied it at 3-3. The Seawolves held a lead at 11-9 when they went on a 12-0 run to put the score at 23-9. It ended 10-25.

Â
The third and final set could not have started any better for the Lady Pirates. They took a commanding lead which was capped off by an ace from Wescott at 5-1. Hampton was stunned by a Seawolves streak of five points which put them in front at 6-5. The Lady Pirates kept themselves in the set and only trailed by three at 16-19. Stony Brook used another run and took the set away 18-25.
