VA– The Hampton University softball team dropped a Big South doubleheader against Longwood Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 Hampton 1 Longwood 4
How It Happened:
Â
- The Lancers wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring on an RBI in the top of the first and third inning. (2-0)
- Longwood added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the fifth off back-to-back RBI singles, making the score 4-0.
- Senior Emily Kepple (Dayton, OH) homered to left field, pulling the Lancers back within three, 4-1, in the bottom of the fifth.
- Longwood shut down any attempt the Pirates had at a rally in game one, earning the complete game win.
Game 2 Hampton 1 Longwood 12
How It Happened:
- A scored run in the top of the first opened the scoring for Longwood in game two of the day between the Lancers and the Pirates. (1-0)
- The Lancers took complete control of the game in the top of the second, posting nine runs in the inning, extending their lead to 10-0.
- At the top of the third, Jacobsen of the Lancers homered to left field giving Longwood two more runs on the board and a 12-0 lead.
- Senior Kiya Jeusi (Woodbridge, VA) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth but it wasn't enough to stop the mercy rule giving Longwood the win. (12-1)
The Pirates return to action at home on Sunday, April 3, against Longwood at 1PM.
