LEXINGTON, Va. -- Homestanding VMI put up one goal in each half as they defeated Hampton University 2-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The hosts got on the board in the 24
th minute as Riley Flanagan put VMI on top 1-0 with a feed from Whitney Edwards-Roberson.  VMI got the insurance goal in the 79
th minute as Hannah White was on the receiving end of a Maggie Beckman feed for a 2-0 advantage.
Hampton had more shots on goal (9-7) but could not put one past Jillian Hall who recorded the shutout. VMI held a 14-7 lead on shots in the first half, but Hampton peppered the ball in the second half outshooting VMI 10-6.
Camille Pereira had four of the nine shots on goal for Hampton, while
Zaria Ascue had two.
Hampton returns to action on September 12 in Williamsburg hosting Robert Morris at 2 pm.
