HAMPTON, Va. – Seniors
Clara Smith had nine kills and seven blocks, while
Gabby Calloway added eight kills, six digs and five aces as Hampton avenged an earlier loss to Charleston Southern with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-16 win on Friday night.
The first set saw Charleston Southern jump out to a 5-1 lead after a pair of Hampton attack errors. Calloway recorded a kill and then her first ace to jump start a 9-1 Hampton run to lead 10-6 after a Smith kill. That advantage grew to 22-14 after another Calloway ace and Smith pushed it to 23-14 with another kill as Hampton won 25-18.
Hampton held the lead throughout the second set, though the Buccaneers tied it twice at 21 and 22. A Smith kill gave Hampton a 23-22 lead, before a pair of errors helped push Hampton to a 25-23 second set win.
The final set saw the teams tied twice with the last one being off a Paige Reagor kill to even the match at 13. From there, Hampton closed out with a 12-3 run as an attack error gave Hampton the sweep.
Nevena Santrac added six kills, while
Margaret Daramola had five and seven blocks, while
Isis Black added five and four blocks.
Hampton closes out its season on Saturday facing Presbyterian at 1 pm on Senior Day.
