HAMPTON, VA— The Hampton University softball team fell short in their Big South Conference opener to Campbell University falling in a doubleheader on Saturday 13-1 and 4-2.

In the game one, the fighting Camels scored eight runs lead in the first inning. The Camels pushed one run in the second and fourth and would add three in the fifth to seal the win.

Hampton scratched a run across in the bottom of the first as
Taylor Warrick walked and went to second on a
DaSha Hill bunt single. Both advanced on a groundout and Warrick scored on a sacrifice fly by
Janae Lyles.

Game two, in the bottom of the third lead off hitter
Sarah Kollas doubled to left field and went to third on a sacrifice bunt from
Morgan Crawford.
Joya Greer would pinch run for Kollas, while batter
Samyah Richardson drew a four-pitch walk. Richardson later steals second to move into scoring position. Greer and Richardson would score on Warrick singled down the right field line for a 2-0 lead.

With two on base and one out, Campbell responded as Kynadi Tipler doubled to right center to tie the game even at 2-2. Tipler would reach home on base hit from Christa Hall to give Campbell a 3-2 advantage. Campbell would score one run the fifth to close the win 4-2.

Taylor Warrick was 2-for-4 with two RBI's and Kollas and
Kennedy Hickey both were 1-for2- against Campbell at the plate.

Hampton returns to action on Sunday in a 1pm single game against Campbell University.
