WASHINGTON, DC – The Hampton University men's basketball team pushed George Washington on Saturday afternoon but fell 65-57 in their first game of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic.
Hampton trailed 38-32 at the break and trailed by as much as 18 points in the second half.  A run trimmed the deficit to eight in the final minutes.
Jermaine Marrow scored 25 points and dished out four assists to lead Hampton in scoring.Â
Greg Heckstall was next in scoring with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Hampton shot 39% from the floor (23-of-59) and was 9-of-10 (90% from the foul line. The Pirates outrebounded George Washington 36-35.
Hampton now visits nationally-ranked Xavier for an 8:30 pm tip on Monday night in Cincinnati, Ohio. The game will be broadcasted on FoxSports1.
