BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Hampton University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Virginia Tech on Sunday at Tech Softball Park, losing the first game 9-1 before falling 11-2 in the second game.
The Lady Pirates are now 12-19 on the season.
The Hokies scored four runs in the first inning of the first game, including a two-run home run from Chelsea Whitcomb, before adding three more runs in the second inning and two more in the bottom of the third to take a 9-0 lead.

Hope Sobelewski led off the inning with a single, she scored on a double to center from sophomore
Jada Fields.

Danielle Budden had two of Hampton's six hits in the first game.
The Hokies struck early again in the second game, pushing one run across in the first inning before scoring three more times in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead. A two-run homer from Olivia Lattin was the big blow of the second inning.
The Lady Pirates scored both of their runs in the top of the third. After freshmen
Ashley Grassini and Danielle Milloy each drew walks, senior
Diamond Ponds singled up the middle to score Grassini.
Budden followed with a single down the left field line to bring in Milloy and cut the lead to 4-2.
But the Hokies scored three times in the bottom of the third, including another two-run homer from Whitcomb, and four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
