DOVER, Del. – The Hampton University softball team dropped the finale of a three-game set at Delaware State on Monday at the Hornets' Nest, as Delaware State came back to take a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Pirates are now 12-22 overall and 4-5 in MEAC play.
Hampton pushed across its run in the top of the second; senior
Taylor McCoy led off the inning with a double to right center field, before advancing to third on a wild pitch. She then came home on a sac fly from sophomore
MacKenzie Wise to give the Lady Pirates a 1-0 lead.
The Hornets tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, thanks in part to an error, before taking a 2-1 lead in the sixth on a pinch-hit single from Danielle Velez.
Freshman
Sarah Kollas had two of the Lady Pirates' five hits.
Freshman
Allie Hotetz scattered five hits and struck out one in six innings of work in the circle.
The Lady Pirates will kick off their final homestand of the season on Wednesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Radford starting at 1 p.m. at the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium.
