WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Hampton University women's soccer team's road opener on Sunday ended in a 17-0 loss to Howard at Greene Stadium.

"My congratulations to the young ladies and Coach McNabb on our inaugural road soccer match," University President Dr. William R. Harvey said. "Even though the final score was one-sided, I want them and our fans to know once again how proud I am of their effort."

Kela Gray scored on a runout past the goalkeeper in the opening minute to kick off the scoring for Howard. The Lady Bison went on to score five times in the opening half – including a pair of strikes from Dytria Ruddy – to take the halftime lead.

Hampton's best scoring chance came in the 25th minute, when Terisha Simmons played a ball to the net – only to have the shot saved by Howard goalkeeper Gabrielle Emilien.

Gray scored three more times in the second half to wind up with four goals in the match, while Ruddy, Jordan Bynoe, Zion Clarke, and Anna Mitchell each scored twice.

Howard held a 62-1 edge in shots and 41-1 in shots on goal.
