Game Notes

ORANGEBURG, S.C. –
The Hampton University football team will hit the road again this Saturday, opening Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play at South Carolina State at 2 p.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

The Pirates (0-4), in their fifth season under head coach Donovan Rose, fell 50-17 to No. 15 Coastal Carolina on the road past Saturday, while the Bulldogs (2-2), under 12th-year head coach Oliver "Buddy" Pough, are coming off a 59-6 win over Benedict College this past Saturday.

Sophomore quarterback Jaylian Williamson (Chesapeake, Va.) is fourth in the MEAC in passing with 149.8 yards per game, and his 112.6 pass efficiency rating is the eighth-best in the conference. He has thrown at least one touchdown pass in each of the Pirates' first four games this season.

Williamson's 151.8 yards of total offense per game are the fourth-most in the MEAC.

So far this season, senior running back Antwon Chisholm (Belle Glade, Fla.) ranks sixth in the MEAC in receptions, averaging four per game. Chisholm is also eighth in the MEAC in receiving yards, averaging 43.8 yards per game.

He has a conference-high 49 total tackles so far this season (22 of them solo efforts), and Tyler has recorded double-digit tackles in three of Hampton's first four games – including a season-high 17 stops this past Saturday at Coastal Carolina.

Special teams are a strength as well, with junior return man Jorrian Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.) currently second in the conference in kickoff returns, averaging 26.5 yards per return, and freshman kicker Anthony Prevost (Chesterfield, Va.) ranking sixth in scoring with a perfect 3-for-3 mark in field goals and a 6-for-6 mark in PATs. He is also tied for fifth in field goals.

Redshirt-freshman punter Christian Faber-Kinney (Williamsburg, Va.) is seventh in the MEAC in punting, as his kicks average 40.5 yards.

Overall, South Carolina State has won the last five meetings between the two teams. The two teams first met in 1937, with Hampton winning 7-6 – kicking off a string of eight straight wins in the series for the Pirates.

The Pirates are 194-165-6 all-time against schools currently competing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) after going 3-5 in the conference last season.
