HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team put on a dominating performance Sunday afternoon in Holland Hall, sweeping rival Norfolk State
3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-11) to remain unbeaten in conference play.
The Lady Pirates (13-8, 7-0 MEAC) have won five straight matches.
Junior outside hitter
Krista Kraskura (Kuldiga, Latvia) led Hampton with 13 kills, while junior rightside
Vendula Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) added 11 kills. Kraskura hit .565 for the match, and Strakova hit .526.
Senior setter
Bibiany Fonseca (Uberlandia, Brazil) had 30 assists, while senior libero
Sheileen Pagan (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico) had a team-high 12 digs on defense.
The Lady Pirates hit .400 in the first set, and they took an early 5-3 lead before the Spartans (8-14, 4-3 MEAC) fought back to tie the set at 6-6. Hampton answered with a 6-2 run, taking a 12-8 lead after a kill from Kraskura.
The Spartans clawed to within one, cutting the lead to 15-14, before the Lady Pirates went on an 8-2 run to take a 23-16 lead after a kill from junior middle blocker

Norfolk State scored three of the next five points, but Hampton held on for the first set.
The Spartans opened the second set by taking a 5-1 lead, and they later led 6-3 before Hampton scored the next six points to take a 9-6 lead. After Norfolk State cut the lead to 12-9, the Lady Pirates scored the next five points to go up 17-9.
Norfolk State scored the next two points, but the Lady Pirates ended the set on a 9-3 run, taking the set 25-15 after Kocevska and Strakova teamed on a block.
Strakova gave the Lady Pirates a 5-2 lead early in the third set with an ace, before Norfolk State fought back to tie the set at 5-5. Hampton answered with a 6-1 run to take an 11-6 lead on a block from Kraskura and Kocevska.
The Spartans scored the next point, but Hampton then scored nine straight points to take a 20-7 lead on an ace from Fonseca. The two teams traded points from there, before Strakova ended the match with a kill.
Of Hampton's seven MEAC wins, five have been by straight sets.
The Lady Pirates hit .403 (34 kills, five errors in 72 attacks) for the match, while holding Norfolk State to just .043 (27 kills, 23 errors in 94 attacks). Hampton has held five opponents under .100 hitting this season, including four of its last five.
Hampton held a 10-6 edge in aces and a 7.0-2.0 advantage in blocks.
Goda Jankauskaite and Jessica Johnson each had a team-high seven digs for the Spartans.
