PIRATES AND AGGIES TO GO HEAD-TO-HEAD ON ESPNU

Game Notes

HAMPTON
, Va.The Pirates of Hampton University (1-1, 0-0 MEAC) will open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on Saturday at North Carolina A&T (2-0, 1-0 MEAC). The game will be played at Aggie Stadium on the historic campus of North Carolina A&T State University and will be televised on ESPNU (via tape delay) at 10 p.m. Kick-off for the contest will be at 6 p.m.

“I think that North Carolina A&T is reflective of their coach and I have known Coach Lee a long time and they are going to be hyped and energetic and ready to play. We are going to have to try to go down there and match their energy and have a great game. It is no longer as it once was; when you travel to play North Carolina A&T, you have to be ready to play,” said Pirates head coach Don Rose.

The Pirates' match-up against the Aggies will be the 41st meeting between the two schools, with Hampton holding a 23-15-2 advantage in the all-time series. The Aggies and Pirates have been playing each other off and on since 1909, when Hampton won 11-0. There have been 15 shutouts, with the Pirates on the winning end 10 times. Hampton has won the last five meetings by an average score of 47-14. North Carolina A&T's last victory against the Pirates came back in 2003 at Aggie Stadium by a score of 38-28.

Hampton is 12-2 all-time in MEAC openers since joining the conference in 1995 and they are 74-26 all-time in MEAC games heading into Saturday's contest.

“It is great to play on TV and it will be an exciting game for us this weekend as we get back to the basic and get ready to play,” said Rose.
