Makalynne Dyer begins her first season as the head coach of the Hampton University sailing team. She comes to Hampton after spending a season as interim head coach at Connecticut College where she helped lead the Camels to the nationals.
The Fort Collins, Colo, native participated as part of the Community Sailing Colorado team as a youth. She attended Old Dominion where she was a member of the Monarch’s sailing team for five years. The Monarchs qualified for nationals all five seasons she was a member of the team. In addition, Dyer was honored as an Academic All-American as a junior and senior.
She also worked at the Fort Monroe Youth Sailing Program in Hampton, Va. during the summer as the sailing director. Following graduation from Old Dominion with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/Coaching, she spent two years as assistant coach at Christopher Newport where the Captains qualified for nationals.
She was named interim head coach at Connecticut College where the team qualified for the ICSA Open National Championships hosted by St. Mary's (Md.). The young team consisted of 16 underclassmen and just four seniors.
