Conroy Newman

Conroy Newman is in his seventh season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Hampton University Department of Athletics. He is primarily responsible for developing strength and conditioning exercises designed to enhance the student-athletes’ performance.

Newman joined the women's soccer staff serving as an assistant coach in the 2019 season.
 
Before coming to Hampton, Newman was the head cross country coach and assistant track & field coach at Denbigh High School in nearby Newport News, VA, where he coached one All-Region athlete in cross-country and three in track & field.
 
Newman’s coaching career started in his native Manchester, Jamaica at the Autchembeddie Primary School, where he coached track & field, soccer, and netball. He also worked as a gym and weight room supervisor for two years while studying at Mid-America Nazarene University.
 
Newman attended G.C. Foster College from 2003-05 and ran on the track & field team as he pursued a diploma in physical education and a minor in science. After receiving that diploma, Newman attended Mid-America Nazarene University from 2007-2010.
 
While there, Newman compete in both track & field and cross-country. He was an indoor and outdoor medal winner in the 400-meter dash, 600-meter run, mile run, 4x400-meter relay, and 4x800-meter relay. He was also a member of the cross-country team that won the conference in 2008 and finished in the top five at Cross Country Nationals that same year.
 
Newman graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sports Management and a double minor in Fitness & Wellness and Athletic Coaching. In 2018, Newman earns his Maters of Science in Sport Administration with a concentration in Intercollegiate Athletics.   
 
On top of his coaching experience, Newman has been a Fitness Specialist, weight room supervisor and program leader for the City of Hampton Parks and Recreation. He has also served as a running specialist at Dick’s Sporting Goods. He is a certified Sports Conditioning Specialist with the American Fitness Professionals & Associates (AFPA), Certified Sports Performance Coaching with the USA Weightlifting (USAW), and Certified Specialist in strength and Conditioning with the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).  Newman also earns a technical coaching certification with the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

In his spare time, Newman enjoys playing soccer and working out.
