Mutisya Wins Second Straight Race As Women's Cross Country Takes Fourth At CNU

Avah Savage joins her in top four with personal best time

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Sept. 18, 2026) … With two runners in the top four and the overall winner for the second meet in a row, the Hampton Pirates women's cross country team took fourth in the CNU Invitational Friday night at the Lee Hall Mansion course in Newport News. Hampton totaled 79 points as host CNU won the event (32 points), followed by VCU (66) and Norfolk State (77).

Peninah Mutisya won her second straight race covering the 6k course in 21:25.4 to outdistance Sarah Dake of Christopher Newport who was second in 22:18.8.

Avah Savage ran a personal best to finish fourth in 22:25.3 as she chopped 33 seconds off her previous best of 22:58.4 set last year at the NCAA Southeast Regionals.

Kaydeen Johnson finished out three in the top 20 for the Pirates as she ran a 25:03.1 to take 17^th. Angel Moultrie was 30^th in 27:04.4 and Yetunde Olayinka was 36^th in 27:49.5.

Hampton will run next on October 2 in Mechanicsville in the Richmond Spider Invitational.
