Hampton Falls to Florida A&M Saturday

TALLAHASSEE, Va. (Sept. 12, 2026) … The Hampton University volleyball team fell in a heartbreaking 3-2 match to Florida A&M Saturday morning, wrapping up competition in the Florida A&M Tournament.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 3-1 start, as Hampton capitalized on three Rattlers mistakes. The two sides then traded points, but it was Florida A&M ripping off a 4-1 run to take a commanding 16-10 lead midway through the set. They held onto that lead the rest of the way to take set one 25-14.
Florida A&M used that momentum to start the second set, racing out to a 7-4 led, before Hampton settled in. The Pirates then rattled off a 6-1 run of their own to take a 10-8 lead, capped by a Dila Derendeli kill. Florida A&M quickly responded with a 10-1 run, to hold a 18-11 lead in which they held the rest of the way to take set two, 25- 19.
After falling down 10-4 in set three, the Pirates fought back, ripping off a 6-0 run to take a 11-10 lead, capped by a kill from Racquel Frazier. Hampton continued to use their momentum, scoring the sets next eight of nine points to take a 19-12 lead. The Rattlers made a run at the end of the set, but Hampton ultimately held them off to earn a win in set three 25-23 when Frazier deposited another kill.
In set four, Hampton once more fell behind early as Florida A&M raced out to a 7-4 lead, but it was the Pirates scoring three straight to even the set at seven when Aliya Millner buried home a kill. The two sides then exchanged points, before Hampton ripped off a 5-0 run to take a 22-17 lead late in the set. Hampton quickly closed the set out and forced a deciding fifth set when Katerina Pappa recorded a kill to give the Pirates the fourth set 25-20.
The third set saw the two sides trade points early, as the Pirates took an early 5-4 lead on a Rattlers error. Florida A&M then quickly responded, ripping off a 6-2 run to hold a 10-7 lead. The Rattlers would go on to score five of the next eight points and win set five 15-10 to take down Hampton in five sets.
Frazier (13), Jaroszewicz (12) and Pappa (10) each recorded 10 or more kills on the match, while setter Belen Ferrufino registered a team high 31 assists. Maria Clara Andrade had a team best nine digs, while Lillian Campbell added four blocks on defense.
Sophomore, outside hitter, Frazier was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of Saturday.

The Pirates will begin CAA play Friday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Hofstra for a two matches. Friday's match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
