RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 24, 2026) … Hampton University freshman third baseman Sydney Evans was named on Monday as the CAA Rookie of the Week for the week ending February 22.

Evans, a Detroit, Michigan native, put together a solid weekend to help the Pirates secure a 2-1 mark at the Battle of the Bay Tournament, slashing .500/.500/.800. The freshman went 5-for-10 with a double and a triple, scoring three times and knocking in four runs.

She smacked a game-tying RBI triple against Saint Francis on Friday before scoring the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. She went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 6-4 win over Maine. Her fourth-inning single against Maine gave the Pirates an insurance run to put the game out of reach. She had a .500 on-base percentage and an .800 slugging percentage for the weekend.

Hampton (4-4) now heads to the Bank of the James Invitational Softball Tournament hosted by Longwood this weekend where they'll start play Friday at 5:30 pm against Penn.
