Five-run Third Leads Hampton Over Maine 6-4

HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 21, 2026) … Carmynn Bonner and Violet Salazar each had two-run singles in a five-run third as the Hampton Pirates knocked off Maine 6-4 in day two of the Battle of the Bay Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Maine (4-10) opened the scoring in the second inning with two runs on no hits as they took advantage of four walks to take the early 2-0 lead.

Hampton (4-4) broke the game open in the third with their five-run outburst. Amani Johnson walked and went to second on an Aitrhina Aiken single. Both moved up a base on a single from Kylee Quinn. Sydney Evans reached on a fielders choice as Johnson beat the throw to the plate to get Hampton on the board down 2-1.

Bonner followed with a two-run single to score Quinn and Aiken. After a walk to Camryn Hamilton and an out, Salazar ripped a shot down the left field line to plate Bonner and Evans for a 5-2 Hampton lead.

Maine trimmed the deficit to 5-4 as they plated two runs on a fielders choice from Kael Larkin.

The Pirates got an insurance run in the sixth as Aiken started the inning with a double and went to third on a wild pitch. Following a groundout, Evans laced a single to right to plate Aiken as Hampton took a 6-2 lead.

McKenzie Rimmer-Jones went the distance winning her second decision of the year with her second complete game allowing five hits and striking out eight.

Aiken was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Evans was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and the duo of Bonner and Salazar also drove in two.

Hampton is scheduled to play Saint Francis at 11 am and Maine at 2 pm on Sunday.
