HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 28, 2025) … The 2025 Hampton University volleyball team will begin their season on Friday evening as they wrap up day one of the Hampton Tournament hosting Florida A&M inside Holland Hall at 6 p.m.

Hampton will entertain the Rattlers, East Carolina and UMES in the two-day event. The Pirates will also see action on Saturday against East Carolina at 10 a.m. and UMES at 6 p.m.

The games for Hampton will be streamed on FloCollege and all the games will have live stats.

ABOUT HAMPTON
Maria Clara Andrade is the leading returner in kills for the Pirates recording 47. The Pirates do return their top two in assists from 2024 in
Morgan Warren (348) and
Ida Wiszomirska (232).

Hampton will have nine freshmen on its 2025 roster under second-year head coach
Ronaldo Pacheco. He will be joined on staff by Hampton graduate
Gabrielle Tlelima.

The Pirates will face members of the ACC (Va. Tech), Conference USA (Delaware), Patriot League (American, Navy) and Big South (Gardner-Webb) along with a pair of matches against Norfolk State in non-conference action.

ABOUT FLORIDA A&M
These two long-time MEAC foes meet for the first time since 2008 as the Rattlers have won all 15 meetings against Hampton. This will be only the fourth meeting inside Holland Hall between Hampton and FAMU.

FAMU begins the 2025 season on the heels off a 27-7 campaign in 2024 that saw the Rattlers capture the SWAC Championship for the third time in four seasons, go 16-0 in SWAC play and earn a bid to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. Iyonnie Sanford is the Rattlers' leading returner in kills with 250 last year. As a team, FAMU recorded 18 match sweeps of its opponents including eight consecutive sweeps from Sept. 29-Oct. 20.

ABOUT EAST CAROLINA
East Carolina leads the all-time series with Hampton 8-1, but Hampton won the last meeting in the Battle of Pirates on August 31, 2018 in the Golden Eagle Invitational at Tennessee Tech 27-25, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-9.

The Pirates from Carolina return eight players from last year's team that finished 19-10 and advanced to the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championships. Junior Ellie Pate is the leading returner in kills per set for ECU averaging 2.78.

ABOUT UMES
The Hawks return 12 players this season, including 2024 All-MEAC Second Team selection Nkemjika Ikemefuna, MEAC All-Rookie Team selection Lilliana Montes.

UMES comes off a 12-15 season in 2024 but the team finished the year strong, winning three of its last five matches. Ikemefuna (219) and Anjola Omolewa (165) are the Hawks' top two returning offensive threats.

Hampton heads to Newark, Del. to participate in the Delaware Blue Hen Invitational on September 5-6. They'll face Va. Tech on September 5 at 2 p.m., then tangle with LeMoyne and Delaware on September 6 at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
