HAMPTON, Va. (April 30, 2025) … Hampton Director of Athletics Anthony D. Henderson, Sr. has announced a leadership change in the men's lacrosse program as Coach Chazz Woodson's contract was not renewed.

"As a part of my thorough and continued evaluation of the program, I have determined that a change in leadership is necessary at this time to move our men's lacrosse program forward and position it for the highest level of success," said Henderson. "I have the utmost respect for Chazz and am very appreciative of his effort in leading the lacrosse program. However, the progress and on-field results have not been of the standard required for Hampton to achieve the level of success we need and expect."

Woodson took over the program coming out of the CoVID-19 pandemic in 2022 and guided the transition from independent, to Southern Conference and now the Coastal Athletic Association. His teams went 0-50 in four years.

"The process has begun to conduct a national search and identify the next leader of our lacrosse program, and we will work quickly but more importantly as thoroughly as possible," said Henderson. "With the department's standard of excellence and strong fan support of Hampton Athletics, I feel confident that we will find a tremendous coach to lead us into the future."
