VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Jan. 12, 2025) … The Hampton University men's and women's indoor track and field teams returned to action this weekend as they sent a contingent to the VCU Indoor Invitational hosted at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Sunday.
The Pirates sent eight participants and came away with four top-five finishes. Senior
Jordan Mozie came out with a season-best 2:50.34 in the women's 1000 meters winning the race to lead the teams. Her time broke an 11-year-old school record held by Ce'aira Brown who ran 2:51.17 in 2014.
On the men's side, freshman
Ibrahim Abdalla took second in the 1000 meters in a time of 2:29.63, as fellow freshman
Nellie Ambriton was fifth in 2:31.99.
Junior Mohammed Al-Yaffee was fourth in the men's mile running 4:22.45, while junior
Xavier Jemison took ninth in the men's 500 meters in a time of 1:09.43.
Rounding out the women's participants were junior
Mekayla Wilson who was sixth in the 500 meters in 1:18.96 and freshman
Kylee King who was seventh in 1:19.35.
Hampton returns to action on January 18 in the HBCU Showcase in New York City,
