Lady Pirates Host Drexel in Final Home Match of the Season

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 19, 2024) … Hampton University women's soccer team hosts Drexel in the final home game of the 2024 season. The match against the Dragons will be streamed on FloSports and is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. Sunday's contest will also be senior day for the Lady Pirates.

Hampton has only faced Drexel one time with the series beginning last year. The Dragons won the first-ever meeting. Mattie Edozie scored her first-ever collegiate goal finding the back of the net in the 78th minute. Prior to joining the Coastal Athletic Association the Lady Pirates had never played a match against Drexel.

In its last time out, Hampton fell to Charleston 1-0 at Powhatan Field. The Lady Pirates' defense withstood the Cougars attack for most of the match. Avery John once again had an incredible game in goal for Coach Scot Vorwold's side. The freshman from Rosenfield, Germany finished the match with 10 saves. In three straight contests, John has produced double-digit saves. However, a late strike in the 81st minute by Charleston secured the victory. 

The Lady Pirates are currently averaging 6.13 saves per match which is the 24th most in the nation. John this season has made a team-high 53 saves this season. Her 53 saves rank fourth in the conference. 

Drexel is coached by Ray Goon who is in his 28th season at the helm. In its last time out the Dragons fell to William & Mary 2-0. Coach Goon's side recorded 12 shots and six on goal. Drexel could not find the back of the net. The Tribe scored in the first half with less than three minutes remaining. Before the end of the contest, Ivey Crain produced another goal.  

Casey Touey has been one of the Dragon's top offensive players. The senior forward has found the back of the net three times and tallied four assists. So far this season Liv Brocious is Drexel's top goal scorer. The Cherry Hill, N.J. native has found the back of the net four times.
