HAMPTON, Va. – A two-run top of the seventh proved to be the final margin on Saturday as the University of Buffalo defeated Hampton University 4-2 on Saturday in the Hampton Classic.
The Bulls scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but Hampton responded with single runs in the second and third innings. In the second,
Quierra Bradford singled and stole second before scoring on a RBI single from
Jada Fields. The next inning saw
Taylor Warrick tripled to right field and score on an infield single by
Kial Watts.
Buffalo pushed two across in the top of the seventh on a RBI single from Jessica Goldyn and a RBI double from Ufuoma Ogagan. Hampton got the first runner on in the bottom of the seventh on a walk to
Brianna Anderson, but a pair of strikeouts and a groundout ended the game.
Bradford and Watts each had two hits for Hampton as Watts drove in one and Bradford scored one. Â
Allyson Babinsack took the loss throwing all seven innings allowing six hits and striking out three.
Hampton finishes off the Hampton Classic on Sunday facing Youngstown State at 11:15 am and Lafayette College at 1:30 pm.
