RECORDS FALL AS LACROSSE DROPS WILD 19-15 CONTEST WITH UDC

HAMPTON, Va. -- Records were shattered by the Hampton University men's lacrosse team on Saturday as they dropped a tightly-contested 19-15 game with the University of the District of Columbia at Armstrong Stadium.

The 15 goals were the most scored in a game by the Pirates and the first time they've broken double digits in program history. Freshman John Tarver set a school record with five goals and three assists to account for eight points. Sophomore Kendall Sapp was right behind Tarver with four goals and one assist.

After trailing 4-1 inside of the first five minutes, Hampton scored five goals in a span of 4:14 to lead 6-4 as Sapp took a feed from Jacob Woodard and blistered the back of the net for his third goal in that first period.

UDC (1-1) scored the next four goals as Zach Hart took a pass from Alan Singleton to put the Firebirds up 8-6 with 9:57 left in the half. Hampton scored four straight with goals by Johnathan Napier and Kier Johnson sandwiching a pair of unassisted goals from John Tarver as Hampton held a 10-8 lead with 5:41 left. Syrrus Nash cut the deficit in half for UDC with a blast 23 seconds later as the teams eventually went to half with Hampton up 10-9.

The teams traded goals in the first 56 seconds as Darrell Kidd put Hampton up 11-10 at the 14:04 mark on an unassisted goal. UDC scored three of the next four goals as Tyler Mace put them up 13-12 with 7:50 left off a feed from Singleton.

Tarver evened the match with his third goal of the day with 6:49 left at 13-all, but the Firebirds scored five of the next six to lead 18-14 on a Laron Hinton tally with 10:09 left in the game. The only goal in that run by Hampton was Tarver's fourth blast of the night and he ended the scoring for Hampton with 7:05 left off a feed fromm Woodard to get the Pirates to within three goals at 18-15. Syrrus Nash got the final marker of the game for UDC at the 5:33 mark.

Hampton (0-2) will now host Greensboro College in a 4pm faceoff on March 4 at Armstrong Stadium .
